Nicole Xie

Elizabeth Wu

math teacher

Nicole is a high school freshmen at Bridgeland High School in Cypress. She is 13 years old and moved to Houston from an international school in Hong Kong when she was 8. Aside from a brief adjustment period during my first half semester in the U.S., she has been an all-A honor roll student. She has loved reading and writing in English since she was young and enjoy exploring the world of science—especially astronomy. In her free time, she is passionate about building with LEGO and dancing.

Among the many books she has read, some of my favorites include Wonder, Two Degrees, Anne Frank, The Freedom Writers Diary, Reaching for the Moon, and the Harry Potter series.

Katherine is a high school junior with a strong passion for speech & debate and writing. With four years of experience in speech and debate, Katherine now mentors younger students, helping them develop their public speaking skills. In the field of writing, Katherine has received national recognition, earning awards in the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition and the John Locke Writing Competition. Additionally, Katherine was selected as one of 120 finalists out of 12,146 entries in the New York Times Tiny Memoir Writing Competition. Katherine has also taught multiple elementary school students in reading and writing.

For Katherine, writing is a creative outlet—an open space where there are no fixed answers and limitless possibilities for expression.
